Market Street Viera is a free-standing Memory Care community that is changing our approach to caring for those with memory loss. Market Street Viera has a unique design and layout that allows the residents to wander freely and safely throughout the community. The community centers around Market Plaza, a beautifully designed area that is meant to simulate the outdoors and is complete with nature sounds, trees, post office and bakery. Market Street has 60 apartments that are divided into two neighborhoods, allowing for smaller, more intimate groups that will not overwhelm the residents. General Information

Market Street Viera is an Assisted Living community in Melbourne that caters specifically to those with memory loss. They have taken a unique approach to memory care, seeking to stimulate residents through sensory activities, familiar smells, hands-on projects, exercise and music therapy. The community centers around a large open area that is patterned after a streetscape that could be any small-town city center. This area allows residents to sit peacefully and read a newspaper, visit the bakery or have a cup of coffee.

Throughout the community, small areas are setup to allow for hands-on reminiscing of activities of daily living such as laundry, cooking, dressing up, shaving or working in an office. The combination of the different sensory stations as well as the smells and sounds surrounding the residents aid them in feeling more calm and comfortable.

Each resident receives an individualized service plan upon moving into the community and family members are encouraged to complete a silhouette of their loved one’s life that includes pictures and other important information about them. The resident can access their own silhouette to help them in remembering important events and people in their life.

In addition to a multitude of sensory experiences and activities to keep residents engaged, Market Street Viera also seeks out the most qualified and dedicated staff. They look for employees that have a servant heart and those who interact with residents in a positive and uplifting way. The combination of innovative programs, a unique building layout and caring staff members puts Market Street Viera into a class of their own.

Community Details

Dining: The kitchen staff at Market Street Viera approaches dining with Memory Care in mind. They use “fiestaware” which is brightly colored and stimulates appetite in those suffering memory loss. They also try to make meals visually appealing to encourage residents to try new things and maintain their health. Meals are served three times a day in smaller dining rooms located in each of the neighborhoods in the community. Snacks are also available to residents and the Market Place has small offerings of snacks that residents have access to throughout the day. In addition to stimulating appetites with visual cues, the dining staff strives to serve food that is good for the brain like fish and lean meats as well as a variety of fruits and vegetables. Any dietary restrictions that residents may have will be accommodated.

Care Services/Staffing: Licensed nurses are on-site 24 hours a day and they are dispensing medications, not Med-techs. Market Street Viera seeks out employees with a servant heart and an excellent ability to speak and relate to the residents. Staffing fluctuates depending on the current needs of the residents.

Building Features: Market Street Viera is a modern, new building adorned with large two-story windows, curved lines and state of the art interiors. The interior of the community is centered around the Market Street Plaza, an interactive streetscape that simulates walking down the street in Charleston, South Carolina. It has old, southern charm and the lighting and smells even reflect the season and time of day. This is the main area where families interact, socials take place and musicians perform. In between activities, it provides a quiet area for residents to rewind and relax under the magnificent oak tree or grab a cold treat from the gelato cart.

Apartments are divided into two neighborhoods which include 30 apartments on each side as well as a dining room. Each neighborhood also has a porch area complete with rocking chairs. The entire community is secure and residents are able to roam freely throughout.

Activities: Market Street Viera utilizes a program called It’s Never Too Late which provides a technology-based interactive method for stimulating memory and the brain. It has countless options to explore, such as: nature, travel, politics, spirituality, military, television shows, movies, games, puzzles, etc. They also offer hands-on “Life Skills” stations throughout the community that allow the residents to participate in activities of daily living such as dressing up, working in an office, being a homemaker, etc.

Market Street Viera is located off the 95 Freeway and is situated next to the Indian River Colony Club, which is a well-known landmark in the area. The community is surrounded by several residential and commercial properties. Shopping centers and restaurants are easily accessible within a few miles of the community. Two local attractions, The Brevard Zoo and Suntree Country Club are just a short drive away.

Each resident is assessed before moving into the community, upon move-in and then again 30 days after moving. Once an individualized service plan has been put into place, residents are reassessed every 6 months or upon a change of condition.

Market Street brings in a lot of outside performers and musicians to entertain their residents. They also have an artist that comes in and teaches art classes. Residents are able to utilize the community provided transportation and visit local attractions such as museums, restaurants, the wetlands and other stimulating and engaging destinations.
