Market Street Tampa is a free-standing Memory Care community located in the greater Tampa area of Tarpon Springs. This newly constructed community will open its doors in January 2018 and will be one of the only all Memory Care communities in the area. The focus on Memory Care allows the staff members, who are all Certified Memory Care Practitioners, to zero-in on the needs of those with memory loss. The unique design and attention to detail empowers the residents to wander throughout the community, explore and participate in a secure, safe environment. Market Street takes a hands-on approach to care and combines reminiscence therapy with activities of daily living. This combination of care and innovation allows residents to thrive in a stimulating and engaging environment.

General Information

Market Street Tampa is a beautifully modern building with an innovative layout and approach to Memory Care. The community will be opening their doors in January of 2018 and will offer a new and unique approach to Memory Care. The main difference is their Market Plaza, a large, open courtyard that looks and feels like a street straight out of Charleston, South Carolina. Specialty lighting and even scents stimulate the residents’ senses and simulate a walk down the street in an old southern town. There are even storefronts that the residents can interact with, such as a bakery or a gelato cart. This is also where residents can come and sit beneath a large oak tree, which is made to look extremely lifelike and provides the perfect capstone to the area. Residents are able to come and go as they please, as the entire community is secure and specially designed with the residents in mind.

All of the staff at Market Street Tampa are Certified Memory Care Practitioners and there are nurses on the premises 24 hours a day. This is a positive difference between Market Street and their competitors. They are truly setting themselves apart as a premier Memory Care community. Specialized services carries over into the approach to dining as different colors and tablescapes are utilized to foster appetite in residents that sometimes do not have a desire to eat. The chefs concentrate on making visually appealing food. Family-style dining in the smaller neighborhoods allows residents to stimulate their visual and olfactory senses before tasting the food.

The apartments at Market Street Tampa are set up in two smaller neighborhoods with just 32 residents in each. The rooms are all private with a private bathroom attached. The apartments are to the sides of the community with the Market Plaza centered in the middle. The community also has outdoor areas to sit and relax in the warm Florida sun.

Community Details

Dining: Market Street offers a diet centered on Mediterranean fare, as this type of diet has been shown to improve brain function. The Executive Chef utilizes fresh ingredients, including herbs from the Market Street garden. The meals are high in lean meats, fish, fruits, vegetables and whole grains, which promote healthy living. Presentation of the food and utensils is also thoughtfully considered at Market Street. Memory Care residents respond to varied colors of food, different sizes and shapes of plating and flatware. This variation and attention to detail promotes increased appetites in the residents and sets Market Street apart from other Memory Care communities.

Building Features: Market Street Tampa is on the cutting edge of Memory Care therapy. The entire community is centered around a central area called the Market Plaza. This state-of-the-art plaza uses reminiscence therapy to stimulate the residents’ minds. At the center of the plaza sits a large oak tree that looks and feels real, but is in fact an immaculate replica that allows the residents to feel like they are sitting under a shady tree in the middle of a southern street. The large oak tree is made of recycled materials. Market Plaza is modeled after the southern, charming town of Charleston, South Carolina. The residents are able to sit at tables adorned with umbrellas and take a stroll down the “street” where they can visit the bakery, an office, or stop for a sweet treat at the gelato cart. The lighting and scents are also coordinated to reflect the time of day and season. This innovative approach to memory care sets Market Street Tampa apart and reinforces their approach in putting the residents first.

Activities: The activities program at Market Street Tampa include a mix of hands-on care and technology. They are innovative in their approach to therapy. The residents can enjoy activities in Market Plaza or visit any of the hands-on, “Life Skills” stations such as an office or kitchen, throughout the community that are set up with items for the residents to touch and feel and utilize as they might have in their earlier years. Market Street Tampa also utilizes a technology based program called It’s Never Too Late to stimulate the brain using art, history, games, puzzles, current events, travel, etc. Families can use this program with their loved one for interactive reminiscing.

No, Market Street Tampa offers their residents a month-to-month contract.

What types of health assessments are performed routinely?

Residents are assessed before moving in, upon move in and again 30 days after moving into the community. They are then evaluated every six months, unless there is a change of condition. If a change of condition is noted, a service plan meeting will take place and the resident’s service plan will be updated as needed.

What types of community events does Market Street Tampa offer?
